Woitschikowski, who lives in Germany, practices scientific microscopic photography with an artistic lens. With an industrial microspcope he reveals the wondrous world of ingredients that is invisible to the unaided eye. The shapes are formed on glass lab plates by heating chemicals, such as Vitamin C, and or mixing them with water or alcohol. As the substances cool or dry, crystals appear. When illuminated by polarized light, some seem to leap into a ballet of form and color. Woitschikowski encourages viewers to embrace the abstract of his photography and see something entirely new, not unlike Dr Robb’s practice of looking at traditional skincare and inventing a multitude of beauty products that have never been seen before.
